Drug Decriminalization Debate

Drug decriminalization debate with Dr. Julian Somers, addiction research leader and Guy Felicella, a former addict and harm reduction advocate, featured on CKNW radio Mike Smyth Show.

As Dr. Somers noted: No one is being jailed for possession anyway. Police rarely charged anyone with simple possession. Somers said this is merely the first step in a BC Government agenda to make the taxpaying public fund an unlimited supply of harmful drugs purchased from pharmaceutical companies for people with mental health issues and homelessness.  Other countries that decriminalized drugs, like Portugal, offer more treatment and recovery pathways, not just more drugs, he argued.

Available medical research confirms if you introduce a larger supply of drugs into the population, the problems increase. Listen to the show.
